Winter Approaches

Frost and snow approaching fast! The Wily Carrot is about to end it's first season.

September update

Farm is going well with near peak harvests. Tomatoes and winter squash are at their finest, while lettuce-type crops are slowing down due to the cooling weather. Kellie says it's down in the 40's at night and 60's daytime. Colorado winter is fast approaching!

The farm is turning green and we finally have a variety of veggies to bring to market!

We had the first Mancos Farmers Market. I was the only farmer, so I pretty much sold out! That's my farmhand in the picture with me; he's been helping to catch the gophers that are eating all my potatoes. The sign was a big hit, Pops!

More Mid-May

The tomatoes and peppers are doing good in the greenhouse.  They are still being covered by row cover every night to keep them a few degrees warmer.

WE've transplanted about 2000 onions, most are doing good. Most yellow, some reds. Irrigation is now attached to the ditch which is running so we have lots of water and tons of pressure (about 70 psi). It leaks everywhere so I need to work on it. I'm using Dave's old piping so it's old and leaky.  There is a lot of weeding and thinning going on. Thistle grows FAST.

Mid-May update

The greenhouse is done! Thanik goodness! Tomatoes and peppers are planted in it and there is basil and bok choy underneath the bigger crops. They have shallow roots so I don't think they'll bother the tomatoes and peppers. There's also some early zuchinni in the back.

The deer fence is mostly done, we just need to tighten it to a top wire. So far it seems  good enough to keep the deer out.  We still need to build a gat for it, we'll see if that happens this year.

Taters are coming up, almost two inches, and I've rehilled them. Just transplanted first round of broccoli and cabbage and chard and kale. Kale didn't make it through the wind and hail storms. Beets and carrots coming up and just planted parsley and peas.
